March Highlights

Hi friends,

This month I wanted to talk quickly about hope and resiliency. Here in Los Angeles it’s really feeling like we are in the home stretch now with this pandemic and people are planning for the future with huge optimism- hope is in the air! It’s looking like soon things may pick up and move back into “normal” production but will things ever be “normal” again on set? Will we just jump back into the studio? While I am filled with hope, I am not so sure, so I am making sure I still have a great backup plan I can offer my clients and to be able to keep creating.

Over March I spent some time doing some behind the scenes work over here to make my home studio as wonderful and accommodating as it can be when crew and clients are safe to join me- until then my prop and surface library is available for all my remote shoots shot at my home studio! No matter what changes in production I know we will have an answer for it!

Now onto the photos! I’m still not clear to show client work shot over Feb or March so here is a self styled test with some flowers from a local flower vendor, props from my pals over at Prop Link and an Erickson Surface!

February Highlights

Hi friends,

I hope you all had a beautiful Valentine’s Day and Black History Month!

This month was filled with some excellent projects I can’t share yet but also with recipe testing and food styling. As we get closer to things going back to “normal” one thing I hope we get to hold onto is remote shooting and small crews. As much as I love an all hands on deck commercial set, getting to personally work on styling and recipe creation has been a really special experience.

Fingers crossed I can work with more clients in this capacity throughout 2021 and beyond!

January Highlights

Hi friends,

What a wild ride this month has been am I right? Yeesh! I finally feel like things are getting back on track in a positive direction in many areas of life including photography where I feel like our industry is cautiously shaking itself off!

In the meantime, January has been the month of personal projects! Check out some shots below of some gin cocktails I created with Future Gin to emulate a lazy summer picnic vibe and experimenting with wrinkles, shadows and some motion! I think this year is going to be filled with more motion projects so I am making sure I’m ready for them all!

December Highlights - Adios 2020

We did it! We made it through 2020!

I don’t think I’ve been this excited to make it through a New Years Eve since Y2K! Fun fact at the NYE party I went to in the year 2000 (as an aspiring baby goth) someone switched off the lights and everyone screamed. This NYE my husband and I grudgingly toasted alone in our house whispering to the dog, “Is it over…?” Oh how times change!

Looking back on the fire tornado that was 2020 I wanted to share quickly what I learned/what worked before we never look back again!

1.Remote shooting was the way to adapt:

Early on I adapted my home space to be able to shoot food, beverage and products remotely- looping in clients for approval in a number of ways so no one felt left out by not being there "IRL". It’s daunting at first but there’s a way to make it work for everyone!

2. Make it easy when it's not easy:

Prop sourcing became a problem with the USPS struggle so I spent a LONG day photographing my on hand, mostly vintage prop archives and put it in a gallery for clients to see if anything I already had would match their brief to save $, time and a S&H headache. I’m always adding to it so why not share with the class? Being adaptable and sharing resources went a long way!

3. Be safe and keep my clients safe:

Whether it was quarantining, getting tested before shoots, masking all the way up no exceptions, working out what PPE we needed, hiring a Covid Safe Set Facilitator or pulling double duty doing styling on most of my projects to keep sets small, the biggest part of 2020 was keeping projects on target but keeping them safe! I haven’t spent a moment in public without a mask since March and only pop out for the occasional grocery store run so staying safe to keep everyone else safe has been something I take SUPER seriously!

4. Having a good sense of humor and some patience:

This year was not the year for taking things personally! Timelines shifted, projects cancelled and clients were afraid to move forward and that is totally ok. The way I got through it was being patient, remembering it's temporary and we are all going to get through it together! I know we will! WE HAVE TO!!!
