Hi friends:

I was on a self imposed creative hiatus in August to recharge the brain batteries but a rouge tomato grew itself out of the side of our house and haunted me. I was helpless to resist. Out came the camera and this fun “failure” of an assignment saw me explore the best part of summer three ways:

Natural light, Motion thru stills and with talent

Introducing my little model, Baby Danger who volunteered his services in exchange for at least a dozen tomatoes!

Diners, Drive ins and NA Beer?

Hi friends-

For this newsletter I present to you, two very different, very fun, recent projects for the Los Angeles Times.

First up- for a story on the best Non-Alcoholic Beer brands. An absurd amount of beer materialized at the studio which I transformed into a wet and wild spectacular. I enlisted a water tray, some astro turf, a pals hands and some of the embarrassing amount of press on nails I’ve been collecting for tests and we made ourselves a little picnic scene. It was fun.

Second saw me drive across town to Pann’s Restaurant to document their perfect Tuna Melt. I don’t get to shoot on location often but when a nice editor bribes me with a good sandwich I’d be stupid not to grab my keys. I snagged a corner booth, set up lights, tried not to get in everyone’s way, failed, made some friends, grabbed a sando to go and hit the worst traffic that I think lasted longer than the whole shoot.

Sandwich 10/10 Traffic 0/10.

Also to note- I just wrapped on a big packaging project you may have seen glimpses of on my stories. I can’t share much yet but we had an incredible crew, the best week and our work will hit stores in the summer!

Cake, cake, and also cake

Hi friends-

This month I wanted to share a glimpse into a sweet shoot I did for one of my most favorite LA bakeries, Just What I Kneaded. This Frogtown staple is big on dreams and huge on flavor so they needed a matching maximalist fantasy to drop their new cake offerings into. We put our heads together, pulled some nonsense from my prop collection along with some truly enviable thrift finds from the bakery owner, added some florals from their restaurant florist partner and we were off to the races….the cake races…yes that.

Shot on location just in time for Valentine’s Day!

This Valentine’s Day was also extra special in my household this year as it marked the first birthday of our Remy Danger who got to try cake himself for the first time! It was decidedly messier than our shoot…

Why yes he is dressed as a tiger…
